Bar Frès: How Kuwait’s Parisian-Japanese Conveyor-Belt Restaurant Works
How Bar Frès works: a Parisian-Japanese conveyor-belt restaurant in Arraya Centre, Kuwait City. Plate colours, prices, who it suits and tips before you go.

Bar Frès is one of the newer restaurants in Kuwait City, and it works differently from almost anywhere else in town. Instead of ordering from a menu, you sit at a long marble table while small plates of Japanese food glide past you on a moving belt. See something you like, take it. At the end, you pay for the plates you picked.
Here's everything you need to know before you go: how it works, what the plate colours mean, what a meal costs and who it suits.
Where it is

Bar Frès is on the ground floor of Arraya Centre in Kuwait City. The entrance is easy to spot from the mall: dark wood, red velvet curtains and "bar frès, parisian·japanese" in lights above the door.
How it works

The heart of the restaurant is the belt. It runs down the middle of long marble tables, with red velvet chairs lined up on both sides.
- Sit down at any free seat along the belt.
- Watch the plates go by. Sushi rolls, salads, noodle bowls and more pass in front of you, each on a coloured plate.
- Take what you want. Lift a plate off the belt whenever something catches your eye.
- Keep your empty plates. The colour of each plate tells the restaurant what to charge.
- Pay at the end for the plates you took, plus any drinks.
It's a fun way to eat, especially when you're hungry and want to try a bit of everything.
Plate colours and prices

Each plate colour has its own price, so the colour tells you the cost before you pick it up. On our visit in September 2026, the bill showed:
| Plate | Price |
|---|---|
| Red plate | 2.850 KD |
| Red and black bowl | 2.950 KD |
| Black plate | 3.450 KD |
| Magenta plate | 5.450 KD |
| Soft drink | 0.800 KD |
Two people spent 22.100 KD in total with soft drinks, so plan on roughly 11 to 12 KD per person. You'll also see blue and green plates on the belt; ask the staff for their prices when you arrive, since prices can change.
A tip: magenta plates cost almost twice as much as red ones. If you're watching the bill, glance at the colour before you reach.
The room

For a conveyor-belt restaurant, Bar Frès is surprisingly elegant. Think crimson velvet chairs, white marble counters, crystal chandeliers wrapped in red fringe, candles along the belt and hand-painted crane murals on the walls. The "Parisian" half of the name shows in the room as much as on the plate.
Good to know
- Seating is close together. Chairs sit side by side along the belt, so you may end up next to people you don't know. It's part of the experience, but not the place for a private conversation.
- Better for adults. Close seating along the belt makes it less comfortable with young children.
- No smoking.
- Indoor seating only.
- Payment: KNET, Visa/Mastercard and cash.
- Hours: open daily from 11 AM. Check the Q8tly listing for today's closing time.
Who it's for

Bar Frès works best for a group of friends who want to share and try lots of dishes, or a casual date with a difference. If you've never tried belt dining, it's worth going at least once for the experience alone.
