Solange Maison
An upscale Chinese restaurant on the mezzanine of the Salhia Complex in Kuwait City - a dark, theatrical room with painted ceilings, and a courtyard that sits inside the complex rather than outdoors.

The escalator
Solange Maison sits on the mezzanine of the Salhia Complex, which means you arrive by escalator — a dark, narrow run with the name in gold script on the wall ahead of you. It's a deliberate bit of staging and it does its job: by the time you step off, you already know the place takes itself seriously. At the top there's a lacquered red arch, hand-painted blue-and-white landscape panels either side of it, and heavy curtains pulled back on the room beyond.
The dining room

Inside it's dark, red, and unapologetically decorated. Fabric is gathered across the ceiling like the inside of a tent. Round tables in white linen, each with a small pleated brass lamp, sit against deep banquettes, and painted mountain-and-cloud murals run the walls. A wash of pink light from a blossom installation catches the far end.
This is a dinner room far more than a lunch one. The light is low enough that those little table lamps do most of the work — flattering, atmospheric, and it also means you'll be reading the menu by lamplight. The listing has it down for date nights, which is the obvious fit, but the round tables take a group of six without strain, and it's recorded as suiting formal occasions and group dinners too.
The ceiling

What everyone looks up at is the ceiling medallion — a broad painted disc of peonies, waves and cranes in coral, red and deep blue, ringed by gathered fabric and crossed by thin black beams. It's the most photographed thing in the room and the clearest statement of what Solange Maison is doing: the design is a substantial part of what you're paying for here. If that isn't something you get value from, that's worth knowing before you book rather than after.
The food

The kitchen is Chinese. Past that I'm not going to oversell it, because the listing records no signature dish and I'd rather not invent one for you. What it does record is the full menu online — and at this price, reading it before you go rather than after you've sat down is the sensible move.
On money: Solange Maison is $$$$, the top band on Q8tly, and that's the honest headline. No per-head figure is published on the listing, so you're committing without a number in front of you. Reservations go through the booking link, and there's a phone number if you'd rather just ask.
One honest thing. The listing says indoor and outdoor seating, and the outdoor part isn't what it sounds like. It's a courtyard inside the complex — styled like a street, with black lamp posts, a red carpet runner and real planting, but roofed, air-conditioned, and with no sky. It's genuinely lovely and it is not fresh air, so don't book it as a terrace. Same goes for the live music: the listing notes it happens "sometimes", with no schedule recorded, so treat it as a bonus if it lands rather than the reason you came.
